The toad that turned into a nice little earner

Once upon a time a poisonous cane toad lived in the South Sea Islands, unloved and unwanted. Condemned as an ecological disaster, the Australian army was even deployed to get rid of it.
Then one day a Polish fairy waved her wand and the plain old cane toad turned into a precious fashion accessory.
That’s the story of Polish designer Monika Jarosz’s luxury Kobja brand inspired by the fairytale idea of the “toad that transforms itself into Prince Charming”.
Introduced from South America decades ago to control the native cane beetle, the cane toad may have outstayed its welcome in the South Sea Islands, but today their skins have become a much-prized luxury fashion material.
A friend unknowingly set the wheels of innovation in motion by giving Jarosz a stuffed frog from New Zealand as a gift.
“(It) disgusted me but ended up by fascinating me,” she said.
Three short years later, and her luxury accessory business is producing bags, belts and purses made from whole skins, set with semi-precious stones or Swarovski crystals in place of the eyes.
The high-end leather items, which come in an array of colours including vermilion red, emerald green, turquoise, fuchsia and black, are now sold in Asia, Europe and the US.
A purse can cost between between 220 and 250 euros ($300 and $340), depending on the country, while a large bag would be priced at around 1,200 euros.
Jarosz came to France from Poland 12 years ago to work as a model before developing an interest in design, in particular working with unusual materials.
Fascinated by the stuffed frog, she recalled that the more she stroked it the more the idea of creating something “really good like a jewel” from a similar material started to take shape.
But finding skins to work with presented a problem. In vain, Jarosz made inquiries with restaurants serving frogs legs.
Then she discovered the existence of the toads of the South Sea Islands where they had proliferated to such an extent they were in the process of destroying several local species.
Animal defence organisations had recommended that they be selectively eliminated.
With the help of a taxidermist in the Australian city of Cairns, Jarosz set about transforming the skins into high fashion.
After the taxidermy, the skins are tanned, dried and coloured in France, ending up in a workshop in Paris where the leather is cut, stitched, set with crystals or stones and lined with lamb or goat skin.
“When I called Jean-Charles Duchene (who runs the tannery in Paris) for a quote, they thought it was a joke,” she recalled.
“It was a challenge because we had to adapt to the material. The toad (skin) is denser than lamb, the dye is fixed quicker and it needs less,” she added.
A symbol of fertility and prosperity in some cultures, the toad is also linked to sorcery, Jarosz added.
Now sold in luxury goods shops or concept stores in Tokyo, Beijing, New York, Paris and Berlin, Jarosz’s quirky products have developed an almost cult-like following among some customers.
Some even give their bags names, she said, and regularly update her with news about them.

Flight attendants are up to their sexy mischief again, right? Wrong. On Monday we caught you up on the most recent perk being given to male Aeroflot VIPs, a calendar filled with some of the Russian airline's flight attendants being very, very naked. This gift was in some ways an implicit response to an arguably more provocative ad from Russian LCC Avianova, which involves bikini-clad stewardesses soaping down an airplane for no discernible reason (cost-cutting maybe?).
Don't worry, you can view the whole titillating commercial below, but first let's discuss how Australia's flight attendants are calling for a ban on it.
The Flight Attendants Association down under is petitioning the International Transport Federation to put a stop to Avianova-style travel advertising, which they consider to be over-the-top demeaning to women. The basic claim isn't so much an abstract argument about sexism in advertising, although that's definitely included. The real issue is one of potential sexual harassment. If male passengers are told and shown that female flight attendants are sex objects, as the reasoning goes they're more liable to treat female flight attendants as sex objects. The result is that you have more drunk douchebags grabbing the thighs of more stewardesses in the middle of more flights.
Oh, so that's how you wash you an airplane wheel? Airlines, you've been doing it wrong!
The thing is, we're not sure what, if anything, can technically be done about the spots. The Russians aren't really known for their responsiveness when it comes to outside requests for internal regulation. And as we mentioned on Monday, the entire country is kind of sex-soaked in their advertising, so it'll be an uphill climb to even convince them that there's a problem.

Microsoft reveals the Xbox One apps available during system's "launch window"

Microsoft confirmed the apps that will be coming to the Xbox One between launch on "Nov. 22 and spring 2014" in a blog post on Xbox Wire this morning. Since many of the apps are television-based, the list is slightly different for each country.
Microsoft has not stated which specific apps will be downloadable at the Xbox One's launch, but we'll update this story as that information becomes available. Here is the current list of confirmed apps sorted by country:

Is Google SmartWatch is on the Market now????

A new tip suggests that Google will announce a smartwatch called Gem to coincide with the release of Android 4.4 Kit Kat later this month.
The watch is said to be part of the Nexus brand and will reportedly be announced on Oct. 31, according to Android Police co-founder Artem Russakovski. The disclaimer on his Google+ page says that the information hasn’t been confirmed, but he also wrote that he feels “relatively confident” about this rumor.

5000 employees to be assigned in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, Oct. 27: Employees have shown interest in being assigned in the polling booths in Kathmandu district under the upcoming CA election.
There are 10 constituencies and 311 polling booths in 742 centres in the district. The district has 259,352 women and 272, 736 men and 14 third gender voters.
Chief Election Officer Achyut Bista said the employees have shown interest and are requesting for polling booths closer for their residences.
He said selection of some 5,000 staffs has been started and training will start soon. On the other hand, the election officer’s office has been drawing the attention of the candidates for abiding by election code of conduct. There are 367 candidates here.
The office ordered UCPN-Maoist candidate Renu Dahal to remove her banner at Constituency No.1 saying it was against the code of conduct and monitoring is on, he said.

"As a matter of policy, the armed forces don't necessarily exclude people who have criminal convictions," he told BBC Newsnight. "Each individual case would be looked at on it's merits. The conviction would be examined in terms of how long ago it was, how serious it was, what sort of sentence had followed. So I can't rule it out."
Hammond was asked for his views after the head of the new unit, Lieutenant Colonel Michael White, had responded positively, when the same question was put to him.
"I think if they could get through the security process, then if they had that capability that we would like, then if the vetting authority was happy with that, why not?" he said.
With many of the belief that there is a deficit of cybersecurity experts in the UK, the hiring of hackers could help plug the gap. A survey of IT professionals last month found that 70% believed businesses should hire ex-hackers to safeguard and improve online security. In the US, it is already common practice, with many companies recruiting at hacker conventions.
Last year, the UK's cyber defences blocked around 400,000 "advanced, malicious cyber threats" to the government secure intranet alone, according to Hammond. British ministers have not publicly named the culprits partly because it is so difficult to prove who exactly are behind cyber attacks but privately officials point the finger at Russia and China.
The defence secretary has said the new £500m unit could disable enemy communications, nuclear and chemical weapons, planes, ships and other hardware. He told Newsnight that there would be flexibility around recruitment criteria, for example in areas such as fitness, as it would be unnecessary for someone employed in cyber security to show the same physical fitness standards as other members of the armed forces.

He said the idea was not to make money but to fight petty crime and wrench the market away from illegal dealers.
"The illegal market is very risky and of poor quality," he said. The state was going to offer "a safe place to buy a quality product and on top of that, it's going to sell it at the same price".
In August, Calzada had estimated the price would be about $2.50 a gram. Sales would be restricted to locals, who would be able to buy up to 40g a month.
Smoking pot has long been legal in Uruguay, but growing, carrying, buying or selling it has been punishable by prison terms.
About 120,000 Uruguayans consume marijuana at least once a year, according to the National Drug Council. Of these, 75,000 smoke it every week and 20,000 every day.
In the US, the states of Washington and Colorado have legalised marijuana and adopted rules governing its sale. Unlike Uruguay, they will tax marijuana, seeing it as a revenue source, when it goes on legal sale next year.
In Washington, the state marijuana consultant has projected legal pot might cost $13-$17 a gram. Marijuana in the medical dispensaries typically ranges from $8-$14 a gram in Washington depending on quality.

के तपाईंको हातमा रहेको मोबाइल सेटमा एनसेलको सिम छ ? यदि त्यसो हो भने तपाईंलाई पनि यसले भुसुक्कै ठगिसक्यो । यसको ठग्ने तरिका पनि कस्तो भने हामी सोझा नेपालीहरुले त बुझ्नै नसक्ने, थाहै नपाउने । अझ त्यसमाथि ‘एनसेल नेपालकै लागि’ भन्ने आकर्षक नाराले घर, भित्ता, बाटोघाटो पुल सबैतिर छ्याप्पै छोपेपछि त यसले झुक्याएको र थाङ्नामा सुताएकोमा शङ्कै गर्न नसकिने । धन्न अधिवक्ता मोहन शासङ्करले २० रुपैयाँ सापट दिएर २ रुपैयाँ ५८ पैसा ब्याज असुल्ने एनसेलको लुटविरुद्ध सर्वाेच्चमा उजुरी हाले र यसको ठगीधन्दा सार्वजानिक हुन पायो । डाटा सेन्टरबाट महत्वपूर्ण फोन वार्ताहरुको टेप रेर्कडिङ्ग गरी विभिन्न खुफिया एजेन्सीहरुलाई बेच्ने गरेको, आफ्ना ग्राहकहरुको एकाउन्टबाट सुटुक्कै रकम काट्ने गरेको जस्ता आरोपहरु व्यापक रुपमा लागिरहेका बेला एक वर्ष अघिदेखि ‘एनसेल सापटी’का नाममा लाखौंलाख ग्राहकहरुबाट गैरकानुनी रुपमा सापटीमा समेत ब्याज असुली गरिरहेको तथ्यसहितको उजुरी अदालतसम्म पुगेको हो । यस सम्बन्धमा न्यायधीश कल्याण श्रेष्ठको इजालसले यस प्रकारको वित्तिय कारोबार गर्ने, सापट दिने र ब्याज असुल्ने जस्ता कार्यहरु गर्नु पछाडीको कारण लिखित रुपमा पेश गर्न एनसेलको नाममा कारण देखाउ आदेश जारी गरेको छ । एनसेलले टेलिकम क्षेत्रमा नेपालकै सबैभन्दा ठूलो कम्पनी बनेको दाबी गरिरहेकै बेला नेपालकै सबैभन्दा भ्रष्ट कम्पनीको उपाधि समेत पाउने लगभग निश्चित झैं देखिन्छ ।

That's when I started experimenting with various opportunities and that's when I also started to get paid. If it was free to join and it paid, I gave it a try. I found that there are many affiliate programs that allow you to offer products and earn commission on the sales. If you have a blog (even a free Blogger blog) or write pages on sites like Squidoo, Huppages, etc, then you can offer products via your affiliate link and earn money. My favorite affiliate program is LinkShare. Through LinkShare, I'm doing well making money as a Walmart Affiliate.

It would be hard to find a person who never wondered how much money you can make by uploading videos to YouTube, especially if one of your videos go viral. That’s exactly what happened with the video below where little Charlie bites the finger of his brother:

An About has major role and importance if you don’t want to apply for Adsense. But when it comes to Adsense, they are about Zero chances of getting approved if you are not showing this page.About page simply describes about you and your Blog . It’s quite obvious that everyone has his/her own opinion. What one of your readers likes may be bothering someone else. Than it is better to give them opportunity to speak up to you and tell how they feel about your Blog, what they want to be edited , what they liked or hated.

Make sure to put you Name and Email address in some easily visible area like About Me and Contact Us pages. It will confirm to Google Adsense Team that it is the same person who applied for Adsense and not some spam, crappy bots.

Because this is where I encountered a problem. Instead of 18, I accidentally published my age as 17 while on Adsense Application Form, it was accurately 18.
Hence there started a problem . Because Google Adsense is not for under 18 people. I realized this problem after being disproved a few times without any legitimate reason. So I advice you to be accurate while typing your age.

6. Minimum Number of Posts
There is no exact answer. Not even one. Because I have seen very established Blogs with 400+ posts and their owner telling me that Google Adsense is rejecting them while somewhere ,people with 40,50 posts are enjoying making money. Exactly what I said that there is no actual answer. However, we can always predict things. According to my experience , you should only apply after you have more than 70 posts. Posts length should must be 500+ words too.
7. Top Level Domain
Those are gone far away when Adsense used to approve “Blogspot” and “WordPress.com” Blogs. As for today, you must have your own unique domain that specifies your Blog. If you don’t have one yet, stop dreaming about getting approved with Sub domains and go buy a Top Level Domain.Another important thing about domain is it’s age. Because for most of Asian Countries, Adsense has placed an age restriction. They don’t accept any sites before they are 6 months old.

Your Blog is the biggest thing after Content. This represents your expertise ,experience and Professionalism. So be careful because anything can kill your Chances.

Be careful with what type of content you are publishing. Because it is something that truly matters. Google Adsense is not for Pornographic, Illegal Items, Drugs or other Blogs / Sites like that. Also Adsense team won’t be willing to allow you to step in if you own a Non English Blog. Having posts shorter than 300 words in length is also Red Signal.
10. Providing Value
Don’t complain about not making money and don’t clearly state that your are Blogging for Money only and have no other interest in it. Because this will show them that you will not be providing values to your readers any day. Hence another Red Light glows up.

If you have any other Ads placed like Chitika, Clicksor or anything, it’s time to drop them off.
Even Google Adsense allows you to use other Ad Networks along with them, it’s better to remove the ads before Applying and don’t put them back until you get a reply from Adsense Team.

12. Paid Traffic
Google hates the sites that are getting Paid traffic and mostly penalizes them so there is not a damn chance of getting Adsense Approval letter for a site that is getting paid traffic. You can bring traffic from Search Engines or any other way you want but if you want to earn via Google Adsense the right way, paid traffic is not a solution.

Why I Will Never Use Adsense on a Blog Again
Nine years ago I started a fitness blog, wrote some articles, slapped on an Adsense unit or two and then a year later sold it for $30,000. I was pretty happy with myself. And while it was the right move for me at the time I can’t help but wonder how much I could have sold it for if I had ignored Adsense and done something totally different.
In this article I am going to talk about why I will never use Adsense on a blog again. I hope at least some of you pay attention.

Why is Adsense is so attractive?
Let’s start the post by admitting that Adsense is very attractive to a lot of people. You just sign up for an account, write some blog posts and watch the money get paid into your account every month. It is quite alluring. I’ll never forget the feeling of my first $1 day, $10, $50 day and so on. Like a drug, I constantly checked my stats to see how many clicks I had got in the last ten minutes.
But while all this was happening I was losing money. Each Adsense click of between 10 cents and $5 represented a loss to my blog. I only wish that back then I had thought about the fact that there are much better ways to make money from a blog. Ways that perhaps aren’t as sexy in the short term, but work out to be a lot greater in the long run.
Why I will never use Adsense on a blog again
Now I want to get into the main bulk of this post and tell you why I will avoid Adsense on my blogs from now on. If anyone out there disagrees with me or has taken a similar course of action I would really love to hear about it.
1. Each click represents a lost reader
The purpose of blogging is to get readers. You craft headlines, opening paragraphs and content in order to catch people’s attention on social media and Google but then you send them off your blog by encouraging them to click Adsense ads. It is actually quite perplexing. I see hundreds of articles on how to increase Adsense CTR and get more clicks but no one ever seems to talk about the fact that maybe sending your hard earned visitors away is a very bad idea.
2. It dilutes your brand equity
When you place another advert on your website you are passing equity to that brand. For example, if Daniel put an advert for a spamming software on the side of Daily Blog Tips it means that he endorses that brand. So Daily Blog Tips’ brand is then associated with the spamming brand.
Adsense makes it hard because you do not have complete control over who advertises. Yes you can blacklist certain URLs but it would take a massive amount of time to make sure every brand that appeared on your site was a good one. I know the owner of a very large Luxury Watch blog who lost a lot of high profile Swiss contacts because his Adsense ads served up replica watch promotions.
So what should I do instead?
Now the question becomes about what one should do instead of Adsense. It is a very important question to ask. If I had asked it of myself ten years ago I imagine I would probably be earning five or ten times what I am today.
The answer is email subscribers
I have said it before and I will say it again. The money is in the mailing list. The most successful bloggers and web marketers all place an emphasis on capturing as many email subscribers as possible. Look at Problogger, Copyblogger, John Chow, Shoemoney and the rest; they all make millions of dollars a year because they have large lists of interested email subscribers who they can email to:
Promote new products
Any time you launch a new product you can send out an email or a series of emails designed to get people interested in and ready to buy. Darren Rowse did this recently when he launched his new book. Before it is even published he knows that he has close to 150,000 people that will look at the advert.
Launch new websites
What if you want to expand your website to something new or create a sister site? Well instead of doing all the ground work to get those initial users you just send out emails to your list. If it is relevant and related you will find that most of your fans follow you over.
Sell affiliate products
The last thing I will talk about here is the fact that niche email lists give you a massive opportunity to sell affiliate products to a very actionable audience. You can earn between 40% and 80% on affiliate sales by just sending out an email. You don’t even have to create the product, just promote other people’s.
Capturing email subscribers is a long term strategy that pays massive and ongoing dividends. Remember that visitor who clicked an Adsense ad and made you 30 cents? He could have subscribed to your list and be earning you hundreds of dollars a year by purchasing your products or ongoing affiliate offers.
